[you might be able to find a copy at a good newsstand; if not their number is (919)942-5282 and they might sell back issues; or, libraries may carry it ] The article is "On Seeing a Sex Surrogate" by Mark O'Brien. It is a very honest and explicit account of a respiratory polio quad's dealings with and feelings about sexuality. very powerful, interesting and well written. Also, there was an article in Accent on Living a year or so ago about a disabled man's experience with prostitutes. On the subject of prostitutes: sure, people would rather have a real sexual relationship, but if there isn't one, prostitutes can perform a valuable service. (not just for the physically disabled, but for those who, for any reason, desire but lack a sexual relationship). I can't comprehend why prostitutes are treated with such scorn in this culture. It should be an honored service profession, no worse than being a hairdresser or waiter, surely. More like being a specialized kind of physical therapist. I respect honest prostitutes. I really don't see why some people want to haul other people off to jails for exchanging sex for money. What are people afraid will happen if this is allowed? All I see happening is that we would have a somewhat kinder and gentler society. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ( Alan Filipski, GTX Corp, 8836 N. 23rd Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85021, USA ) ( {decvax, hplabs, uunet!amdahl, nsc}!sun!sunburn!gtx!al (602)870-1696 ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
