Donald,

I am using a speech program called Video Voice by Debbee Norling who
appears here on BlinkTalk. It is about 3 years old but has many of the
features that others are now bragging about.
Anyway, QEMM ( the 386 memory manager that comes with Desq View
386 ) seems to disconnect my speech except in review mode. I have had
some limited success using 386MAX as the memory manager. At least I
could get a talking version of DOS going in DV. When not in Desq View,
my speech works well with QEMM installed.
Since results seem to be hit or miss, I have not tried to continue
with DESQ View.

BIGT.ZIP is available in file area 15 (new uploads) of BLINKLINK. I
expect that it will find its way to area 3 shortly. The file is about
4 k bytes as a zip so a call to 412-766-0732 should not be very
expensive. I imagine that your sysop could get this via a file request
as well. I will leave further details on that to Mr. W.
I am helping the University of Pittsburgh make its computer facilities
accessible and think your program is quite good and your making it
available at an affordable price quite wonderful! We welcome your
participation in this echo.
BIG T provides a 10 character window with the video cursor placed at
the center. There is only a single (large) size for the displayed
letters. This window can be moved around the screen and will
immediately return to the active cursor when a key is pressed. It
works very well with WorPerfect and Qwerty. It works with color
screens, but "eats" the color attributes of areas that have been
reviewed. In the case of QWERTY, this leaves black and white strips on
the normal blue background. Presssing page down in WORDPERFECT seems
to recolor the screen.

Certainly both this program and MAGHERC have nice features. What other
programs have you written or do you plan to write?
Again let me thank you for your participation here and especially on
behalf of the dozen or so people to whom I have demonstrated MAGHERC.

 archives.]

I have tried to run my speech program from within a DOS window in DV,
but the machine locked up. I really don't know enough about Desq View
to do much but try different things. I have a nice fat manual sitting
here, and I am sure it gets into enough technical stuff to suggest some
possible solutions. Only trouble is that it isn't doing me any good
in print...

Magherc will run under Desqview. A friend of mine got it running to
show me it could be done but I will have to ask him again what he did.
It will only work in the full screen mode (not in a small window) and I
remember he said to follow the instructions for using a graphics
program.
