Video News Release On Hearing Dogs To Be Aired

A video news release (VNR) on hearing dogs will be distributed
free-of-charge to television news stations across the country
as one of many ongoing projects to educate the public about
this emerging group of assistance animals.

The National Hearing Dog Advisory Board recently reviewed the
video release during its April 4 meeting at Gallaudet University.
The board also proposed changes to a new hearing dog decal,
which will soon be displayed in restaurants and public facilities
to increase public awareness about hearing dogs.

Both the VNR and the decal are being developed through a grant
to the Delta Society from PEDIGREE, Food for Dogs.

All states except Hawaii have equal access laws for both hearing
dogs and guide dogs for the blind. These laws allow a certified
hearing dog and owner access to public accommodations such as
airlines, buses and restaurants. But hearing dogs are not yet
widely accepted in public places.

A booklet on legal rights of hearing dogs is now being printed
for distribution. A complete book of laws in each state is
available for $36.00 and can be ordered through the Hearing
Dog Resource Center, P.O. Box 1080, Renton, WA 98057-1080.
For further information call 1-800-869-6898 (Voice or TDD) PST.
