Susan - Thanks for your information about the STARTEXT system and the
availability of stock quotes on that system. If I understand the
STARTEXT system, it is a BBS. Actually, I am looking for some type of
system, using a dedicated line, which would allow speech access to
stock and commodity quotes without having to call and log on to a
system each time.

Hi, this may be a long shot but Lotus has something Called Lotus Signal.
Supposidly it allows a person to get stock and other quoutes via a
sattle lite. I don't know what hardware/software is required. You
might want to contact Lotus. I know this isn't very much information
but it is all I have. If you do contact them please let me know what
you find out, I am very interested.

Lotus sold Signal to another company recently.

I requires a receiver that plugs in like a modem, and software. You
must pay monthly for the level of service that you get. You can get
anything from the Dow Jones Averages and NYSE quotes to exotic
commodity, currency and bond quotes. The information is transmitted on
the sideband of an FM station in 12 major markets (yes, you have to be
near or in a major city). It's a pretty neat idea and the software is
good. The subscription fees get a bit high. The receiver itself
sells for somewhere in the 300-400 dollar range last time I checked.
I've seen used receivers for sale. Instant quotes at a fixed monthly
price.
