Designing More Accessible Communication Services:
Human Factors Issues and Answers
Red Bank, New Jersey
June 22, 1990
Sponsored by the Communications Technical Group
and the
Special Interest Group on Medical Systems
and the Functionally Impaired
of the Human Factors Society
This one day workshop will include panels and talks on the other
"equal access" issue: How can access to communication and information
services be made easily available to all, not only those with
unimpaired hearing, speech, vision, and motor abilities?
The focus of the workshop will be the communication needs of those
with functional impairments and the role of new technologies in
meeting (or missing) those needs. The agenda will include an
overview of the scope of the need, a review of the equipment and
services currently available, the current legal and regulatory
environment, presentations on current projects under development, and
a roundtable on the major accessibility issues for user interface
designers in the 1990s.
Seating will be limited to 120. Registration for the day will be
$60. For more information or a registration form, contact:

I attend the monthly meetings of the Sydney equivalent of this
organization, plus represent the voices of disabled people on the
Australian equivalent of the International Standards
Organization.

At Standards Australia, I had introduced Risk Analysis. The two
working committees have agreed with me, to design Information
Techhnology interfaces for 95% of the Australian adult
population.
At the moment, we are gathering the data on our 95th percentile.
I'm not sure if you will ever read or be able to respond to this
message. This conference is not really for serious issues that
concern disability.
