Index Number: 8957 Hi Schelia, Well, as someone has already reminded you, and you found for yourself, we, as disABLED people, do not automatically come with a "tough shell and strong heart" simply because we are not able bodied people. Rather than be disturbed by your emotions, treasure them and keep them, for those are probably the very things that make you strong as well as human! Often, people tell me that they think I am such an inspiration because I "appear to be such a strong and adaptable person!" Well, I am a strong person, but don't think for a moment that I do not feel emotion! I am not a strong "cold heart", I am very passionate in my feelings about things! When you deal with tough situations, you are not "losing" because you find you must deal with many emotions, you only lose when you become one of those "automatons" who has no heart and emotion and may as well live their lives as machines. I laugh, I cry, I rejoice and sorrow and feel many sensitivities that may or may not appear "obvious!" I suspect that what you're saying about your recent experience is, that you are human and have a heart as well! This is not a weakness, this is not a flaaw, even when it hurts and is hard to deal with! This is your strength! Those who do not have this, have nothing, only motion without meaning! Just like the rest of us, you can only do the best you can do! Being disABLED does not mean you are not allowed to be hurt, frustrated, frightened, angry or sad! Hell, just the opposite, you probably have a better understanding of these feelings and you should allow yourself the right to have them! It is how you "deal" with all of these things that determines how "tough" you are and the acceptance of your own feelings! Welcome to the human race! Keepin' the faith! .
