I think a good gauge for a braille reading speed is approximately the
average speec a sighted persons usually reads. I think that's about 250
words a minute. When I was in school, I had to keep up with my sighted
colleagues both in parochial grade school and a jesuit high school here
in Washington. Since I took Hadley's rapid braille reading a number of
years ago, I have increased my reading speed to at least 400 words per
minute with some variation either higher or lower.
