Hi Old Curmudgeon,

>>>" 1) Clear communication
>"
AP>> This isn't just a prerequisite for dealing with attendants, but is
AP>> one for just plain living.
>"
>"Which demostrates your limited experience with disabled people.
>"My speech can sound as bad and crazy as a spastic's speech.

Did I say speech? I said communication! Who the hell cares how one
communicates, so long as it's clear and concise. You can say volumes with a
raised eyebrow!

Besides, I am right here. So much trouble in this world is caused by
miscommunication. Look at the divorce rate. Look and see how many wars there
are. Look at the damage parents sometimes do to their kids All this is caused
by miscommunication!!!! If people, I don't except myself here, would just
(((LISTEN!!!!!!!!!)))
>>>" 2) Naming EVERYTHING in "words". Not even ABs (able-bodieds)
>>>" need to do this.
>"
AP>> Not sure what you mean here
>"
>"Try explaining how to tie a shoelace - words only.

Ok, I see now. Yes, you are right here. But a little careful thought should
suffice.

AP>> Why don't you sign your posts? <grin>
>"
>"Too busy. Too many commitments & responsibilities.

hahahahahahaha!!!! That's the lamest excuse I've heard in a long time, you old
Curmudgeon. <guffaw>

What are you talking about? I have Cerebral Palsy. My speech isn't normal..
I guess you could say it's "spastic", but I direct my care very well thank
you.

There's another guy in this building who is non-verbral. He
directs his care with a spelling. Does better than some quads with
perfect speech.

Thanks Betty, unfortunately I'm an old Coot of 59 and I usually
speak my mind, never made me any friends, but then, what the hell,
you know, before I hit the Wheelschair, I was deterimined I would
do away with myself, I simply couldn't see myself in a Wheelchair
contraption and face the people that I know, well... I thought
about it more and more and decided, "If people don't like me the
way I am, then they're not worth knowing to begin with." sonow I'm
somewhat handicapped, still doing most of the things that I used to
be able to do, only some of the things have changed, so no big
deal, as long as I have my independance and can still look after
myself, I shall forever be gratefull, I have a hell of a lot of
respect for those people that need attendant care to be able to
carry on a somewhat independant lifestyle in their own apartment,
they seem to be able to cope just fine, so what in hell have I got
to complain about? NOTHING... compared to them, I'm able bodied,
although some of the eternal pain can at times send you right up
the wall, so... Who would I be to complain about my condition when
so many are worse off than me and they do damn little to complain.

Cheers.

 Bill

Yes, I noticed the same thing with my "clients" when I was
employed for five years before my accident, at the Australian
Quadriplegic Association.

Unknown to most people, it is not the speech apparatus, nor the
mouth-stick which upsets communication between people. It is
due to the PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH of the person.

As you & everyone in this conference has seen, my brain damage
(and the resultant loss of psychological health) is far more
damaging than any damage to the peripheral nervous system
(including spinal cord) or the body components.
