Index Number: 9538 [This is from the Blink Talk Conference] I am not an article writer so my report won't be as fancy as chip orange or the others. I thought some would like to know my first impressions of the audapter speech synthesizer. I have a built in bias against the ssi263 family of synthesizers like the votalker accent soundingboard ect. this is irronic because I now have a sounding board for my laptop but it was the only internal board I could find. if I were to rank speech synthesizers based on clarity alone they would go like this. 1. decktalk 2. audapter 3. vert or the pros 4000 board which ever you prefer to call it. 4. echo gp or pc 5 the ssi263 family of synthesizers. The audapter has internal firmware to control most speech functions. you can let your screen reader control it or over ride with internal control. it has a bult in two k buffer and a power saver. It doesn't misspronounce commons words that we are all used to hearing wrong with our faviorate synthesizers like the word blind or multiply but it does mess up others. I think it has the ability to learn pronounciation but I haven't learned about that yet. I have only had it online for 2 days now but profundly impressed and I am not easily impressed by speech. I have been around the block several times. I am also playing with vocalize and impressed with that software. (swallow) are you listening Doug? the only thing vocalize lacks at this writing is a speech driver for the audapter. They have a generic driver and you can write a data file but I am not good at those kinds of things so I hope gw micro will write a driver for us dummys. if gw micro needs technical specs to write the driver or the data file I will be glad to supply what I can or act as a bridge between p.d.s. and them. tandy -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!377!6.0!Tandy.Way Internet: Tandy.Way@p0.f6.n377.z1.fidonet.org
