[misc.handicap] South African requests help

era@ncar.ucar.edu (Ed Arnold) (08/09/90)

Index Number: 9601

The following request for help appeared in the Summer 1990 issue
of Computer-Disability News (a publication of National Easter Seals).
Due to laws of most countries which restrict information flow to
South Africa, persons with disabilities don't have access to FidoNet
or InterNet/UseNet. The only connection to South Africa I'm aware of
is a FidoNet gateway that connects to UNINET, the South African
university computer network.

Please help Mr. Martin if you can! Postage rates to South Africa from
the U.S. are 45 cents/half ounce up to 2 ounces, and 42 cents/half ounce
after that.

South Africa Seeks Computer Awareness

Due to the lack of computer information resources and lack of bulletin
board services in the Republic of South Africa, it has been brought to
our attention that computer potentials for people with disabilities are
seldom disseminated there. A young man with paraplegia who is located
in Africa seeks to improve this situation and has requested us to forward
all available information. Should you have pertinent books or reports
to send him to begin establishing a small resource section of materials,
please forward to Mr. Peter Martin, 45 Heaton Nicholls Road, Kloof 3610,
Republic of South Africa; tel. 031-7642580. Thank you!
