Index Number: 9527 Hi its me again, I really don't know where to start but here goes. I work for dear old "Ma Bell" bless her wicked old pointed head. She bought my last hearing aid for me as a job assistance thing or whatever to help me do my job better. When I received the hearing aid they (my boss) told me that if and when I left the company that I would have to return it so that someone else could use it. HAHA. Yes just 19.95 fits any ear. Jeez. I couldn't believe it when he told me that. But anyway my question is: I do make a decent living with Bell, I mean I make it from payday to payday, and sometimes I don't. I can't afford anything out of the ordinary. If something breaks or suddenly needs repaired I'm screwed. No extra cash. Now if I loose my job for some reason or get a different job somewhere else (hoping Orlando, Fla.)what am I going to do. I can't afford a hearing aid out of my pocket. Is it uncool for me to ask for assistance from someone, anyone to help buy me another aid. I mean I seem to make more than SS allows or anybody else but I seem to only make it by the skin of my teeth. I know I make it better than alot and very grateful for that but it doesn't seem to be enough to take care of myself and my needs. I mean I live in a little bitty apartment and I drive a dodo piece of car, I have very few cloths and I never go anywhere or do anything lavish. I do live withing my means. TIGHT! So. What do I do. I keep hearing that there are better aids out now than the one I have, which is supposed to be the most powerful one that Qualitone made at that time. I think there are better aids out now and would love to try to get one but no moolaa. Well enough pooo for now. Any comments would be appreciated. And yes Greg, I know, things could be worse.(grin) Love you all, Gary (the wizard)

Index Number: 9657 [This is from the Silent Talk Conference] hi garry I am amazed. What good is a used hearing aid? I can't believe your boss would think that you would need to return the aid. There are many different hearing aids on the market today and everyone's hearing needs are different. Some one may have a loss in high frequencies and there fore need an aid that produces high frequencies. You don't know how I would like to come down to oklahoma and punch him. No I don't think it is uncool to ask for assistance in purchasing hearing aids. You are disabled. See if there are any groups in your area that deal with hearing like for example in denver we have the listen foundation you need to have a knolodgable and reputable audiologist give you hearing test to determine what hearing aid you should have. Alot of these people think they know what they are doing and they know all all all about the hearing impaired. there is another company called arc linstening devices they have an 800 number. check them out. It is one of those things that you have to keep banging on doors until you get dome where. I am totally blind and use one hearing aid and one cocklea implant. Good luck and keep in touch. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!104!809!Steve.Gomes Internet: Steve.Gomes@f809.n104.z1.fidonet.org
