Index Number: 9694 The Volunteers for Medical Engineering of Texas are designing an electric wheelchair for one of our members who is a quadrilateral amputee. The chair will have a seat which will go to the floor - allowing her to leave the chair unassisted - and elevate to allow eye contact with persons who are standing. Her standard electric provides horizontal mobility but this design will give her vertical mobility as well. In the late seventies, a young thalidomide survivor from England, visited this country. I saw newspaper photographs of him at this time and his chair, which I believe was built by his father, seemed to be the exact design we are looking for. If anyone knows how we can contact this young man or his parents, or has any information on the type of chair we are contemplating. Please leave a message in this echo or send a Netmail message to me at: (1:130/10) We are aware of a child's chair called the Turbo but this is a $9,000 monument to poor design.
