Yes, it was a period of about 10 years that her doctors kept saying  
it's only in your head.  Needless to say it had a completely 
demoralizing effect on her mental condition.  That's why I'm so upset 
when doctors are not honest with their patients.  Believe it or not 
when my doctor told me that I was going to be paralyzed he did just 
about the same thing to me as your doctor did to you.  I really don't 
remember that much about it because it was such a shock and it was  
almost 24 years ago.  When I was told of my condition I developed a 
stress ulcer within 24 hours.  I can see why they didn't tell me right 
away because it took about two weeks to get me stabilized to the point 
where they thought that I would live.
I have no quarrel with you saying that the doctors have to walk a  
fine line.  I know that I wouldn't want to be in their position of 
having to tell someone that kind of news.
