Hi all! I want to share a very up lifting and hope filled experience I
had as there have been discussions on employment or more accurately
unemployment going on here.
As a blind woman, I have faced and dealt with more discrimination than I
care to mention. I am now 38, and basically up to my neck fed up with
the crap!!! I am plain sick and tired of other people's limitations and
ignorance setting me back!
Well, I had a lovely and refreshing experience this past Saturday. I
went to a seminar given by the Entrepeneural Women's Association. I
found the group very warm and friendly, not only that, but they were
more than willing to network and share with me. So unlike the
experiences I have had when dealing in the corprate world!
While at the seminar, I also learned of a sister organization to this
one, The Entrepeneural Mother's Association. They had a meeting today
which I also attended and found to be not only stimulating, but again,
very uplifting! I made several good contacts, and recieved help with my
business I have now (computer tutoring) but also for another venture I
plan to start this fall. I have to say, it was a welcome change!
My reason for sharing this here is that you may want to check in your
own areas to see if this organization exists there. The more disabled
persons I talk with, the more I find that the answer for many has been
to go into business for them selves. True, there are many risks, but in
my book anyway, the risks are far better than going through the crap you
go through when trying to get others to realize you are capable and can
do the job!
I'll be sharing more of my experiences with this organization. I was the
only disabled woman there, but I certainly did not feel left out, or
less than, as I have in the corperate envirernment. Please forgive
spelling tonight. I've stayed up watching The Diary of Anne Frank with
my daughter, and I'm beat.
Well, I shall say nightie night for now. I need to hit the sack! If
anyone would like more info on this group, please leave me a post here,
will be glad to help with anything I can. Night night for now.
