Hi Everybody:
Okay, for you information junkies out there, here's the deal! As some
of you know, I make my living (well ... sort of .. enough to pay the
rent) as the governmental relations director for the American
Foundation for the Blind.
I'm sort of a better looking version of Jim Gashel (just teasing,
Jim). Anyway, I supervise a pretty neat bunch of people, and if I do say so
myself, (blush!) we crank out a lot of information about what is and
is not going on here in Washington affecting blind or visually
impaired persons. We have a monthly newsletter which you can now
download from Willie's board (I still think it should be spelled
Wili), but I could never spell anyway. The filename convention is
nothing short of brilliant -- oops! -- afb790.zip, afb890.zip, etc.
Also you can join the AFB Information Network and receive periodic
alerts and letterwriting guides. It's all free and it's all
accessible on cassette or ibm disk. I'm working on braille
access, too, especially for the deaf-blind crowd. I also send out stuff in
print,
because I wouldn't want to discriminate against the nonusers of
alternative media.

We cannot possibly cover every issue, and the Network is but one
source of information concerning public policy issues affecting blind
folks. Nolan Crabb and Ken Jernigan are better writers than me
anyway. Some people think legislative stuff is pretty boring -- and
they're right, unless it is presented in a tightly edited style with
a little flare! Accordingly, our newsletter contains such tidbits
as"legislative technogab" which tries to define terminology without
insulting your intelligence (unless, of course, you are a lawyer in
which case there may be some doubt about your/our intelligence!).
I hope you will give us a try. The enrollment brochure is in
file afbbr890.zip also available by file request from Blinklink.
Now, Wili, you're going to take all of the complaints, right?
Cheers: Scott

... From Washington, DC, where every day is Christmas
