For whatever it is worth, the next article is our 10,000th article. Since one of the first topics of discussion nearly 4 years ago involved the use of labels in describing the handicapped/disabled/etc (and has been a recurring topic ever since), it seems appropriate that the 10,000 article be the announcement of a contest by the National Cristina Foundation to invent a new word to describe the handicapped/disabled/etc. The prize is $ 50,000. Readership on the Usenet side is now about 8,000 people, over 10 times what it was when the group first started but don't ever expect to see the misc.handicap newsgroup in the monthly top 40 readership list. There are about 600 BBS's throughout the world now carrying the Fidonet side of this newsgroup (ABLED, Blinktalk, Silenttalk, Chronic Pain, Spinal Injury and Advocacy) including the Handicap News BBS which I run. The mailing list side of this newsgroup (which predates the newsgroup) still exists and is now being run as a Bitnet Listserver mailing list (L-HCAP@vm1.nodak.edu). There is now also a section for programs for the handicapped on the SIMTEL-20 archives out at White Sands Missle Range. In the next week or so, I will be adding several new Fidonet conferences which will be gatewayed into the Handicap news newsgroup. Thanks for all of your support over the past few years.
