[misc.handicap] Really Angry!

 We are both incredibly angry at the results of a job application that my 
wife Jennifer got yesterday!  For the background to this; she's handicapped 
in a couple of different ways, none of which have interfered with her 
working in customer service type jobs for the last 5 years. ( She's 
certified by the state handicapped )  The company she's been with since 1-89 
is moving operations to Texas in mid-October and will be letting everyone 
here go. She has been looking for another customer service job.

A company about 5 minutes from where we live interviewed her and she was 
told she would be perfect for their customer service type position and that 
she was the one the person in charge of hiring had decided to hire. But 
first a drug test and physical was required. She took them and for the drug 
test portion, she told them of her allergy medications, which can give false 
positive results on those tests. She waited about a week for the results and 
yesterday was told she failed the drug test due to the detection of large 
quantities of speed type drugs being found and confirmed by a second test. I 
talked to our pharmacist and was told that the antihystamines she takes can 
test positive like those drugs on that test!

Also, the doctor who did her physical said that her physical problems would 
prohibit her from doing the job! A job she has been doing for over 5 years! 
The lady who wanted to hire her said that the decision had been made by 
their California headquarters and was "out of her hands", though she still 
felt she would be best for the job. We are both outraged and will do 
anything in our power to fight them on this. Jennifer has never used speed. 
The test fails to explain how anyone who did could be overweight at the same 
time anyway. This seems like another example of how the Mc Carthyist 
fanaticism going on these days can harm people's lives! It also seems an 
example of how a company can blatantly discriminate against the handicapped 
and hope to get away with it!
