Index Number: 10130 [This is from the Blink Talk Conference] I have a student who would like to make a tactile graphic interface moniter. he is a PhD student in bioengineering at Rutgers. I am trying to collect certain things for his project. It is my hopes the memebers of this echo can assist. John Ostuni looked at my R1D Optacan. He was facinated at the vibrating pin configs. I am aware there is a new Optacan on the market made with Casio and TSI. However, there are many "old" optacans around that many people do not use. It occured to me there may be some people here who wish to help a "starving student" get ahead. He is working his way through college and is barely getting by. Are there any people on this net who have any old optacans to give to John? He wants to make vibrating pin configs on a moniter with a tough plastic overlay. This way the moniter can be "touched" and then some other hardware driven commands can then make it possible for vision impaired persons to "read" icon based screens. Amazing PhD project if you ask me... but he needs the raw materials.. tactile arrays, optical "retinas", etc. Casio and TSI are **NOT** interested in this. We contacted them. So I appeal to the net. Anyone have any cache of used unwanted optacans around?
