You might also consider a small backpack (the schoolbook size). You can
sometimes find them in surplus stores and I think they are an acceptable
alternative since they are out of the way, leave your hands free, and are
sometimes more comfortable to wear/carry than the waist type. Also, when you
want to take it off, the backpack is usually eaiser to carry (some even have a
hand strap) than the "fanny pack" (which usually only has a belt of belt
loops).
