[misc.handicap] Flipper query-help sought

Is anybody with flipper experiencing similar problems, and more
to the point, are there any solutions to share?

My new version of Flipper, 3.03, does not work with my Grollier's
Encyclopedia on CDROM, as the previous version, 2.74, does. It
will not track the cursor position & the up/down arrows don't
work. I rang Stephan Smith at Flipper, told him the problem, &
tried the "remedies" he prescribed which had to do with tracking
a "forced enhancement". That didn't work & nothing else did
either, and apparently Smith is out of ideas...

Secondly, Flipper with Dec Talk, the synth I use, can take more
than 2 seconds to start reading a line, now a slightly longer
delay with the new version. Smith claims that it's the Dec
Talk's fault, as it does extensive processing before reacting.
Would anyone like to comment on that?

Lastly, can somebody provide an in-depth comparison,(if such a
thing exists), between Flipper and the other major speech
programs?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Shel,
Ok, I'll comment on that!
Seriously, I think Steve Smith is telling it like it is on this one,
for I have used Flipper with my Dectalk, and as you said, it does take
some time to start pronouncing a line. I don't think it takes anywhere
near 2 seconds on my system, however, and for sure, the Dec reacts
faster to Flipper than any other speech program I've used with it.
I just don't think there is any way to make the Dectalk react
quickly!
