Are the certificates of completion worth anythig, I mean are they respected by other institutions of learning, employers and things like that? Are the Hadley courses transferable unit / credit wise to conventional colleges? Keepin' the faith! . Index Number: 9792 [This is from the Blink Talk Conference] I've taken some courses with Hadley. They're great for certain things but they are not college courses. Hadley used to have a college program where courses were transferrable. Basically, Hadley provided the materials in Braille or on tape but you were taking them from the college, at least that's how I understood it. The courses are worth something as continuing education courses. Some of them give you credit in ceu's and so can be accepted by employers and other organizations that require people to keep up their learning by having a certain number of ceu's (continuing education units) per year. The school is accredited by the National Home Study Council and by the Central Association of Colleges and Secondary schools, but Hadley is not a college. Theyl do have some good courses though which might be worth taking even if you didn't have college credit for theml. Hope that helped a little. marda -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!321!152!Marda.Anderson Internet: Marda.Anderson@f152.n321.z1.fidonet.org

I bet not many people know they have foreign affiliations. They are with UNESCO and provide an array of fine materials and courses internationally by correspondence. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!107!608!Tzipporah.Benavraham Internet: Tzipporah.Benavraham@f608.n107.z1.fidonet.org

It is a great school that should be praised more for what it has done. We sgould also think about how we can help Hadley. They always like to have a list of "friendly blind people" in the country so they can help with "peer counseling" and referrals. As to courses offered by Hadley for blind parents with blind or sighted children I haven't really investigated that aspect of Hadley's offerings. Perhaps Barbara Akin could be more helpful in this area than I. However, I have had occassion to use Hadley courses for persons who, for various reasons, had not graduated from high school. Their GED program was excellent and of the six people I know of who took their courses, 5 of them passed with no problem. The other one just quit the program, so Hadley cannot be blamed for that. I certainly support Hadley's efforts, and think they fill a much needed vacium. Thanks for the message Linda. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!377!6!Stew.Bowden Internet: Stew.Bowden@f6.n377.z1.fidonet.org

I took their Braille Music NOtation course quite a while ago and later took their Grade Three Braille course. Right now I'm taking their medical transcription course, figuring that might be a way I can make additional money. I was pleased with the two courses I took and so far the Medical Transcription one seems ok. How was their computer introduction course? I considered taking that but didn't know what it covered. They've got some new computer courses too, one on word processing and one on databases. They sound like they're fairly basic. They've got another one called "computers and careers", I think. Actually, I know they have the word processing course. The database one is still under development, according to my catalog. marda -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!393!9!Marda.Anderson Internet: Marda.Anderson@f9.n393.z1.fidonet.org
