I don't know how you guys do this kind of thing, but could you talk to
your church elders and explain the treatment or lack of treatment you've
received from your minister? What about looking for a new church, or is
this the most available one?

Hello Martie,

The problems you described with church and family are so common I am
beginning to believe it is a disease. I have been full time in ministry
work for fifteen years and it is nearly the same every where I go. I have
heard these same stories from blind people dozens of times and still am
unable to understand it, especially from the Christian community. I can
tell stories which have happened to me personally which are similar to yours
and so can many others on blinktalk. The Christian community is even more
blind to the blind than the secular community and I am not for sure why
this is. I know it isn't because the blind in churches haven't been trying
as many messages in blinktalk will confirm. Pastors, in particular, are a
strange lot and I've pastored a church myself. The bottom line is self and
the unwillingness to practice what they preach. I have only been in two
churches myself where this wasn't a problem and I have spoken in over a
hundred churches across the country. A small fraction I admit but the
problem is common. I am sorry about the loss of your mother but I am even
more sorry that your pastor was so busy he couldn't minister to your needs.
I'd take him out and shoot him for you but another would quickly take his
place. They grow on trees. Don't give up though. There are still some
real people out there.

Phil.

Hi Martha: every time I hear a story like the one you just put here I
get angry. Obviously, that church paster is not interested in meeting
the needs of his congregation. Regarding Sundayschool, I know that
the International lesson Series is in braille. I think published by
the American bible Society, but any church literature outlet should
be able to confirm that. Unfortunately your family doesn't sound very
supportive either, and that saddens me. Hang in there Martha
