Index Number: 9080 [This is from the Blink Talk Conference] SB> Scuttlebut has it that we may have already received our last SB> issue of Dialogue Magazine. The board met on June 11 and wants SB> to close it down. Anyone else know more? I received a letter from Dialogue a week or so ago, an emergency plea for money. As you will remember, they almost went under in 1986, I believe it was, and were only saved by an Ann Landers column plus grant from Clement Stone. They offered me a fund-raising job twice when I ran the Reading Service in Chicago, but I wasn't interested. They have never had a good professionally run fund-raising effort, relying on the ond-boy system, Lions Clubs etc. With fund- raising competition getting so fierce, they most professionalize their efforts and expand them also. Unless they do this they will eventually go under, even if they get another emergency reprieve. I had to raise approximately $250,000 a year when in Chicago, and it is a tough way to make a living, but it can be done. David Andrews ... Index Number: 10636 [This is from the Blink Talk Conference] I talked to Bonnie Miller, the former Editor of Dialogue Magazine the other day. She is now the manager of the Reading Service in Chicago. Anyway, she says that the Lifeprints magazine has bought Dialogue. I do not know any more then that, such as whether subscriptions will be extended, what the content will be etc. We shall see.
