For years I've realised that in order for us to get equality
for people with disabilities we would need political power
at the local, state and federal level. An excellent way
to gain that political clout is to elect good leaders
with disabilities to public office.
One such leader is running for office in Berkeley.
I write to ask your help in electing disability rigghts
activist and friend Judy Heumann to the Berekley City
Council. She's been an excellent advocate for our
rights in California, the USA and internationally.
The following letter describes our opportunity in
more detail:

I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF A HEATED CAMPAIGN AGAINST A WOMEN WHO
RAN IN THE LAST ELECTION AND LOST. I HAD BEEN ASKED TO SEEK
THIS OFFICE BY THE INCUMBANT WHO IS NOT SEEKING RE-ELECTION.
I HAVE BEEN ENDORSED BY CONGRESSMAN DELLUMS, ASSEMBLYMAN
BATES, THE MAYOR AND THE MAJORITY POLITICAL GROUP. I HAVE
OPENED AN OFFICE AND HIRED A CAMPAIGN MANAGER. I HAVE
DEVELOPED WALKING PIECES AND POSTERS FOR HOUSES. ALL OF
THIS WILL COST ME BY THE END OF THE CAMPAIGN ABOUT $30,000.
I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING DONATIONS LOCALLY, STATEWIDE AND FROM
AROUND THE COUNTRY. AS YOU KNOW IF I AM ELECTED I WILL BE
ONE OF THE FIRST DISABLED WOMEN EVER ELECTED TO A PUBLIC
OFFICE IN THE US. MY CAMPAIGN IS FOCUSING ON THE NEED FOR
THE CITY TO CONTINUE TO WORK ON PROBLEMS EFFECTING
UNDERREPRESENTED GROUPS, HOUSING, THE HOMELESS, HEALTH CARE
ETC..

IMPORTANT FOR US TO SUPPORT DISABLED PEOPLE WHOSE POLITICS
