A couple of messages back I stated that Flipper had the fastest response time with the Dectalk, or at least it was the quickest according to an article in Newsbits and from what I could tell. Vocal-Eyes, however, did seem to have a higher speech rate overall.. Well, Doug posted that he was working on a new driver for the Dec which should give it a faster response, I got a copy of it just last night, and... Yep, there's a new top gun for the Dectalk! Using the new driver, the keyboard response is at least as fast as Flipper now with Vocal-Eyes, and add to this the higher speech rate, and you really got something! The one complaint everybody has always had with the Dectalk is its slowness, and honestly, I find this to no longer be the case! Sure, it can't respond and put out the speech rate of a Soundingboard or one of the other really fast synthesizers, but it ain't too shabby anymore when running Vocal-Eyes, and lets face it, it sounds pretty good! If you're running a Dectalk, or have a Dectalk available to you, I highly recommend you give Vocal-Eyes a look. Amazing the difference a little thing like a driver can make! Willie ... Tandy, No, the only experience I have had with the Audapter is via demo tapes, as I missed it at the convention this year. I do like all I've heard about it though, and in particular I think Noel Runyan is a good guy, so the support ought to be something like GWMicros, without the ability to grab him here, that is! Actually, he has logged on here as a user in the past, and we have spoken since then, as Noel is aware of us, but I don't think the BBS bug has bitten him yet. You know, the new portable Dec sounds like it will be a great addition to the synthesizer market as well! This I did see at the convention, and although at the time I hear it had a few qwirks, I am assuming these have been resolved in the meantime. Unlike the full size DecTalk with a top speed of 350 words, as I learned from Breda, the portable is capable of 550! If the response time is likewise better, and the original price I heard of $1500 is still intact, it most definately is something worth looking at! If nothing else, it ought to have an affect on the price of the other few external synthesizers, and this could do nothing but help us all! Willie ... Especially with all this talk about vaporware. ha ha. Actually as time goes on I will be talking more and more about them. Can't give the competion too much warning you know. (grin). All I can say now is I have lots of things done, lots of thing to do and lots of good help with beta testing. Will stay in touch.
