The idea of publishing a book which would detail programming
requirements for compatibility with speech output seems to me to be a
terrific thought. If there is interest in this sort of thing, I
think it would be a worthwhile project for AFB's National Technology
Center to do either alone or collaboratively or perhaps help get some
funding to do. As you say, the talent is out there, and the only
barrier is getting the people together and financing the project so
that the programmers involved will be able to earn a living while
doing a good thing. I think some letters to Elliott Schreier,
Director, National Technology Center, American Foundation for the
Blind, 15 West 16th Street, New York, New York 10011 would be very
appropriate. You might also want to copy William F. Gallagher at the
same address who is the President and Executive Director of AFB.
I'll try to raise the idea internally, too, but you know howit is --
sometimes it's better to hear it from the outside.Besides, I'm always
dreaming up and talking about crazy things which we should be doing. <grin>
