I'm looking for further info on the films in the following list, or for
new films to add to the list. Am trying to talk a local media-type person
into doing a festival on disability-related films. Any input would be
greatly appreciated ...

And there is the film that got me involved with deaf people again...

"Captain Johnno" - About a deaf boy in a rural community. Damien
Walters. Filmed in South Australia.

After I saw this film, I got some TTY numbers off a teacher friend
of mine, and rang one of them at random. I talked to Natalie Sandon
for quite a long time, on quite a few occasions. While talking to
an old Aunty of mine, I found out that there was a heriditary
factor in my deafness (something I never knew before) and that the
furthest back she could remember was a family name of Juncken.

I asked Natalie if she knew any people with the name of Juncken,
and she said that this was in her family tree. I am related to
Natalie! (Third removed) Natalie is Damien Walters cousin, so
Damien is my third-removed cousin too! The Sandons and Walters and
others are families of all deaf people who form a large part of the
deaf community in Adelaide.

What a change from being the sole deaf person in the family, and
not knowing the reason why.

What is particularly amusing about the whole thing, is that Natalie
is incredibly gorgeous, and all my friends just about went into
raptures when her name was mentioned. They nearly had heart attacks
when they found I was related! I know of one boy who has kept
pictures and video recordings of her since she was 8 or so...

Needless to say, I kidded her about the possibility I could be her
uncle and not her cousin, and where she inheirated her good looks
from! ;-)
