 SC> Hi everybody,
SC> Can anyone on blinktalk give me information about goverment
SC> jobs, with the ssa, irs, etc., any information would be
skip speaking only for the part I work for now is a lousy time to
try to get on the employment roles. with the debt budget and ferlos
and general cut backs they are hiring but unfortunately they are
only iring sighted people and where ever possible hiring people who
are already in government service and just want to change agencies.
They have tried to get rid of blinks rather than hire them and I
don't know how long it has been since they had a blink service rep
or claims rep class probably 10 years. good luck. you might stand
a better chance with state or local government. Just a thought.

CK> Tandy you're right about that, but it's not only the blind
CK> but also the handicapped as a whole, because in the words of
CK> a personal officer I know, they can get Social Security, B.S.,
CK> that's not what "we" want a job the earn our keep is much more
 CK> satisfying.
I wish that were true but you know and I know people who are willing
to sit on their butts and draw ssi and ssa dib and live with mommy
and daddy or in their low income apartment and play with their tape
recorders and talkingbooks. many of us want to work but many don't
if they can get a hand out. they are hypocrits they criticize the
way things are but do nothing to better their lot in life. also what
they are forgetting is not everyone has social security credits I
have one quarter to my name so I can never draw dib because the radio
jobs I worked on paid me under the table. hell at age 19 who thought
about social security.

The thing that really buggs me is the sighted person who goes on and
on about how great it is that you have a job (you poor little blind
guy) and how wonderful it is. Then in the next breath this same guy
says go away, I can't help you improve yourself I just don't see how
you can do a job like this!

Blind people are just so amazing, but don't you dare talk to one or
hlep one or you'll go blind. That's how I feel.

You bet most blind and visually impaired people want to earn their
way, but we deserve respect and opportunity just like the next guy.

I still say ADA is a good step forward but don't look for this law to
really help on a wide scale basis. Some may say I'm sour, but not
really, I'm just telling it like it is.

Now where's my cane, sure wouldn't want to bump a chair or anything.
Being the delicate person I am, it might hurt! OOOOOOOH

With tounge in cheek......
