Al,
Although I appreciate your support of my NFB reflections message, I
suspect it won't be long before I get a few not so understanding
responses to it as well! Nevertheless, and despite the fact I agree
with you that we find the type of blink I described everywhere, not just
in the NFB rank and file, they same to be the rule and not the exception
in that group, at least here in the Pittsburgh area chapters.
Speaking of basketball, I was at a picnic this summer, and there in
the driveway was a hoop. A couple of the half inebriated guests were
shooting foul shots, so I got the ball and said, "Let a blink show you
how to do it!" I of course fully expected to miss the entire backboard,
but I never let fear of making an ass of myself stop me before, sooo...
This is no bull....I positioned myself on the file line, got myself
pointed in the right direction with some verbal assistance, and took my
first shot based entirely on memory of how high the hoop was in high
school when I shot hoopers as a wink. SWISH!
I took 2 more shots, both with the same result, before I finally
missed and immediately quit, wanting to stop while still ahead.
Big Al, I never went 75% from the file line before, and it is
finally clear to me why! If only I had kept my eyes closed I may have
actually made the basketball team in my high school, despite the fact I
don't quite make it to 5 foot 5.
