[This is from the Silent Talk Conference]

Hi Annie. I changed the subject line since the conversation has
drifted a bit from TDD BBSs.

AS> Wow! 8 cents per residential customer and 16 cents per business
AS> customer!!! That is a bit high, I think. Oklahoma only charges
 AS> 5 cents for ALL customers . . .

It is a tad higher than some other places, but not so high that it
should bother anyone. And there are some startup costs to cover for
equipment, operator training, etc. My hope is that it will build up
a surplus which can then be used to fund distribution of TDDs (or
even better, laptop PCs) free or at subsidized cost to the HI folks
who need them. My main concern is that it be kept in a separate fund
dedicated to telecommunication services for people with hearing and/or
speech impairments. If the politicos see a surplus, it will attract
them like flies.

AS> I thought Steven White's message was very appropriate for ST and
AS> wish there were a way he could receive this echo but being based
 AS> in Australia . . .
AS> I've noticed there have been a few other messages in ABLED that
AS> would be of some interest here. I try to forward them . . .
AS> Feel free to do so if you wish . . .

Sometimes 'Abled traffic gets pretty heavy, Annie, and I have to skip
large chunks of it and just read personal messages. But most all of
Steven's posts are appropriate for ST. I think that the forwarding
capability in Silver Xpress was intended for you exalted SysOps, and
some of us common folks just got hold of it by mistake. But as long
as I have it, I'll use it on occasion when I see something elsewhere
that should be published here in ST. And if Steven's posts generate
any replys, lets be sure to forward them back to 'Abled so he will
see them.

In another msg you mentioned that a board in Hong Kong was carrying
SilentTalk. I don't recall any incoming rounds from that direction.
Have I missed something? And whatever happened to G. S-K. in 'Abled?
Things have been fairly civilized there of late.

AS> Glad Ret is back and know you are willing to turn all of the
AS> domestic chores back over to her. Give her my love.

Ret says "Good to hear from you, Ann. It's great to be home", and
she sends love. (I think she missed me while she was grandmothering)

... Jack.
