JC> The American health care system has become bloated and inefficient.
And greedy as well.
JC> It keeps taking more of the gross nation product
JC> and continues to row in the share of the national budget. In
JC> 1989 the U.S. spent $2200 per person on health care, Great
JC> Britian spent $600, and Singapore $300; all with about the same
JC> result. The health care system now takes about 15 cents out of
JC> every dollar spent in America.
But there is no evidence that the excessive cost results in improved
or more accessable health care for Americans. Just wealthier
practitioners.
JC> Health care costs in America are nearly eight times that of our
JC> international competitors. By not having the internal discipline
JC> to say no to the excesses America is adding yet another nail to
JC> its economic coffin.
If our economy ever collapses, excessive health care will be the
probable cause. It's a greater threat than the international
balance of payments. Maybe we will wake up before it is too late.
I saw a short spot on TV yesterday calling attention to this
(I believe it was sponsored by AFL/CIO).
... Jack.
