Index Number: 10622 [This is from the Spinal Injury Conference] Could anyone give me some idea where I can find information about the monkeys trained to aid disabled individuals? Addresses or phone numbers would help. Thanks. *adh* -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!261!1000!Alan.Hess Internet: Alan.Hess@f1000.n261.z1.fidonet.org

Index Number: 10667 [This is from the Spinal Injury Conference] For information about either obtaining a monkey to help or about becoming a foster parent (I would love it, my kids would love it, my wife would kill me -- or then again, in our house, maybe she wouldn't notice!), contact: Helping Hands 1505 Commonwealth Avenue Boston, MA 02135 1-617-787-4419 This is the program that was started by Mary Willard at Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York. They are mailing information to me about the program which I will post as soon as I receive it. Good luck (and let us know how it goes). Bill WTM Signature

Index Number: 11260 AB> I told my cats that since they won't even go out for the mail AB> and the newspaper, I was thinking about a monkey. They said - AB> NO WAY, we'd prefer that you get a robot! Have you heard any AB> news on the helper robot front? Yes -- there's lots of info on robots as aides. Suggest you read Ray Kurzweil (brilliant inventor of the Kurzweil Reading Machines and Kurzweil Music Systems [adored by Stevie Wonder]) new book on Artificial Intelligence. He gives special attention to the use of robotics and computers to overcome disabilities. He talks about computers to help the paralyzed walk, the deaf understand speech, and of course the blind read (old technology already, but still improving.) Name of book to follow. -rsr- ...
