Index Number: 11309 [This is from the Blink Talk Conference] Hello everyone, This is my Closing the Gap report, or at least a partial. I saw Don Breda today, and I am sure he says hello. I saw a very interesting new speech program today, from New Zealand. It is carried by HumanWare and is called Master Touch, or maybe that is Touch Master. It includes screen review software, a speech synthesizer and a special touch pad. The touchpad has 25 raised lines across it. As you run your finger across, it reads to you what is on that line. The space where you run your finger is actually a long rectangle formed by top and bottom lines. There are also two small squares to the left of each line. The first one on the left reads you the entire line and the second gives you the line number. It is a very interesting concept and does work. The speech card, which comes as part of the package has quite good speech, on par with the Audapter or maybe a little better. The board has 350K of memory and an Intel 8088 processon on-board, so no computer memory is taken for speech. The screen review package supposedly has smart features built in to automatically read light bars, pop up menus, pull-down menus, boxes etc. I did not see these work, as time was limited. The screen review part and speech sell for $1550 and it is $2150 with the touch pad. This is a new concept and merits a look. I understand that Artic is finally showing Visions 3 but it is in beta test, not released yet. That is it from cold Minnesota. We actually had snow flurries the other night. Can't wait to get back to warm dry Albuquerque. David Andrews ...
