Hi, Donna! I believe you are the one here who is working on a check
writing program for the computer? If that is correct, could you let
me know if it is ready and will be made available to the public? I
need to order checks soon and would like to begin using my computer
for check writing. If you or anyone else can share information on
what works well with speech for balancing your checkbook, I'd appreciate
the information. Thanks.

Linda

Linda,
If you are just talking about maintaining your balance, etc., I find
PC-CHECK.ZIP to be adequate. If, however, you are talking about using
the program to fill out the checks themselves, you'll need something
more profound.

I have a program called checkpro, which works fine with speech for
keeping and balancing your checkbook. It does not print your
checks though. What kind of a printer do you use?

Linda, the checkbook program is ready, it is called checks36.zip. I
will talk to my sys op about getting it up here and on to blink talk.
It's a wonderful program, if I do say so myself. Here are the features:
1. keeps a balance of your check [Dbook; shows you the balance at each
menuy if you like.
2. Enters all checks, deposits and withdrawals[D[s; does all the
math.
3. reconciles with your bank statement--you plug in the bank balance, it
checks to see what checks are outstanding, then tells you what your
reconciled balance is.
4. Pay a fixed amount to certain people each month? Enter it into the
fixed bills section, and you pay it automatically each month.
5. Sum and display and search for records by any field on a check:
date, paid to, amount, memo, etc. For tax purposes, write a key word on
tax-related checks and at the time when it's necessary to square off
with Uncle, search by that field name and bingo, you've got a listing of
all check numbers with relevant tax stuff.
6. The program keeps track of your check numbers; no more remembering
which number you wrote last. All you need to do is to remember to enter
each check.
7. It has a simple calculator with a memory that will enter its result
as a deposit, if you like. So, if you're rich, and you have several
amounts to figure into one deposit, go into the calculator function, do
your adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, go out of that
function, do all your other things, then add your deposit and just hit
c for calculator and bingo, it adds the figure in the calculator.
8. Though there are other functions, these are but a few. But, the
best of all is the fact that each user may individually set up print
parameters for her checks. So, you need to define a left and/or right
hand point on your printer with which to line up your check. Then,
define a stopping point, meaning how far you want to roll the check in.
This done, choose the printing template option. You will waste a check
or two, but it's worth it. Option one in this menu lets you print a
template of x across the page. With help from an Optacon or sighted
person, count over and down to each field. Then, go to option 2 and
plug in the numbers.

Sorry this message got long, guys, but I'm so eager for everybody to
know about and have this program. Anybody who wants it now can call my
host mode board on (703) 536-3915 and down load checks36.zip. Leave me
a msg and let me know you were by.
Hope this helps, Linda! DV
