Hearings are being held around the nation to solicit comments and recomendations for the regulations. Most sections of the ADA legislation (the law itself) require agencies of the executive branch to write legislation within 1 year of the signing of the bill. For example, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commision (EEOC) has responsibility for regulations covering Title I and portions of Title V. They were here, in Cleveland, October 25, soliciting input on topics which include: 1) Definition of disability 2) Definition of qualified individual with a disability 3) Reasonable accomodation and undue hardship 4) Prohibited discrimination 5) Medical Examinations and Inquiries 6) Defenses 7) Illegal use of drugs or alcohol and 8) Insurance (ADA section 501(c)). Everyone has a chance now to impact the regulations. If you have ideas or concerns regarding these topics, contact the nearest EEOC office to find out when testimony will be taken in your area, or submit your comments in writing. If your local district is not holding an input meeting, they should be able to supply you with the address of the national office. I have only the local address. I hope this helps. -------------------------------------------------------------------- MacRae | Darting dragonfly... | Pull off its shiny wings and look... spgreg@csd.lerc.nasa.gov | Bright red pepper pod! | -Kikaku --------------------------------------------------------------------
