Index Number: 11552 surprised to hear you wouldn't "trust everyone in state government to give a straight answer on a disbility issue". (not raaly, of course). The general public in Canada has a stereotypical awareness of disablity. We've had some disabled national heroes. But still, most people raise their voices when talking to people in wheelchairs, and, frankly, most feel uncomfortable around the disabled. We also have problems with invivisble or hidden disabilities. We do have accessibility laws, and human rights commissions to uphold them. Canada's capital, Ottawa, is building a new city hall. As far as i know, it will be the first public building in North America to provide "reasonable accommodation" to people disabled by chemical sensitivities. I'd hate to suggest canada might be above the U.S. on disablity/health/human rights/civil liberties issues, but look at a map!<grin>. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!163!223!Chris.Brown Internet: Chris.Brown@f223.n163.z1.fidonet.org
