Index Number: 11652 Hello All - I'm not sure if this question belongs in this newsgroup.. but considering the number of knowledgeable here, it's probably the best place. I'm doing some work on an electrical device. This device vibrates at between 18-20 KHz and generates a _very_ loud tone. I can't hear it directly... but shortly after applying power one of my ears starts to go numb and my teeth start to hurt. Yes, it's _that_ LOUD. I can increase the frequency ... but do not know at what frequency I won't have problems with my teeth or ears... or with any other part of my anatomy. My dentist doesn't know anything about teeth relative to sound and my family doctor barely knows what I'm talking about. Telephoning a couple of local medical schools didn't elicit any useful responses. Can someone supply a pointer to data on this subject? Regards, Mark Becker mbeck@ai.mit.edu
