Somewhere in my files I have a scientific study of the association of the increasing cases of MS and the spread of the modern strains of rice and wheat. These modern grains are grown because they mature so rapidly and give larger grains than the more "primitive" types. According to the scientific study (which was done over the course of 30 years by a Scandinavian, as I recall. I can get the precise information if anyone "out there" on the net is interested), the larger grains are larger and faster growing simply because they absorb water faster. It is then very difficult to dry these grains properly and the moisture residue readily harbours a pernicious fungus which attacks the nervous system. The rapid increase in the # of MS cases follows demographically the introduction of these grains throughout the world. So much for the Green Revolution Miracle. From the journal, IN BALANCE Issue #25, p. 5+, there is the following prospect of a very good control of MS using food herbs. I will be compressing some of the information from that long article but the gist is below: Anne Compton, M.D. (ca. 1990). Freedom through regeneration: A personal account of a medical doctor's struggle with MS. In January of 1988, a news item abt. Dr. Anne Compton included a photo of her bent over a table concentrating intently on her right hand, wrapped in a brace and clenching a pen while trying to write. Her eyes are protected by a thick leather goggle headpiece. The article reads, "Anne Compton, M.D. knows all about this unpredictable disease (M.S.) that is slowly robbing her of physical functions and is saddling her with other chronic, and potentially fatal, illnesses. She learned all about it in medical school. But Dr. Compton is no longer able to maintain a private medical practice." Today, a little over two years later, Compton has not only shed the body braces and eye goggles, but enthusiastically shares the Sunrider foods which have helped her to now enjoy a full life. Her story follows. THE ANNE COMPTON STORY At age 20 I was studying medicine at the Univ. of Minnesota Medical Scl. prior to entering the Univ. of Alabama School of Medicine in 1969, where I rcvd my M.D. It was at this time that I first began to experience serious health problems, when I contracted a measles infection with high fever and inflammation of the brain. My first narcolepsy symptoms commenced immediately, but were controlled for a number of years by caffeine--containing medication averaging 1200 mg a day. At age 22 I suffered a Coxsackie viral infection wh. led to multiple episodes of inflammation of the cardiac muscle, congestive heart failure, double heart rhythm and "incarcerations" in the intensive care unit. I was given several heart medications, along with multiple antibiotics. By this time I was catching numerous bacterial and viral infections, undergoing several operations, and continuing to degenerate. The long hrs and stress of my medical training accelerated the decline of my health. I was now a member of the "Disease of the Month Club!" Because I was a physician, I had access to the best care that was available from a traditional medical standpoint. Over the years I had a minimum of six specialists--and usually many more--working to maintain any degree of functional capacity or comfort for me at all. As my physical capacities lessened, I had to gradually eliminate many types of medical practice. Eventually, about ten years later, I had to stop all direct patient responsibilities altogether. Shrotly after the cardiac problems developed, a severe blood sugar disorder caused frequent loss of consciousness, emergency room visits and hospitalizations. Then, in 1974, with an episode of toal blindness, poor corrdination, weakness, and slurred speech, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was given steroids, and fortunately, a lot of my vision returned. But by 1976, the course of my MS changed from acute attacks with remission in between, to a chronically progressive one with constant symptoms and steady deterioration. Over these and subsequent years I rcvd many steroid treatments with unwelcome side effects and new diseases. I developed diabetes, which required two types of insulin injected three times daily. Steroids also led to severe chronic gastric ulcers, with hemorrhaging that was unresponsive to all medical treatment, and finally necessitated stomach surgery due to the ulcers' life-threatening nature and their having turned premalignant. Many years later my ribs even spontaneiously fractured without coughing, trauma, or strain, due to the effects of those steroids. Other drugs besides the steroids which were prescribed for the MS between 1976 and 1983 included Tegretol, which caused bone marrow suppression; Dantrium, a drug fever; Dilantin, which caused gum problems and teeth sensitivity; and the Depakene injured my pancreas in 1981. As a result of the latter, I had to be on total pancreatic enzyme replacement due to chronic relapsing pancreatitis (I was a non-drinker), for which I was hospitalized at least once a year. During one of these stays, an emergency central venous line became infected, resulting in a life threatening blood poisoning. I had exploratory surgery, with the discovery of widespread endometriosis throughout the organs of my abdominal cavity (not just the ovaries and uterus). Also between 1977 and 1980 I was in several accidents, underwent a nine-month course of cehmotheraphy, and had developed severe allergies. Meanwhile, I was also receiving multiple therapies for allergies and the inflammation and constriction of my nasal passages, including desensitization shots for 3 yrs, multiple cryosurgeries and a nasal resection. At the end of three years, instead of becoming desensitized, I had become MORE allergic and envrionmentally ill to a life-threatening degree, so steroids again had to be used on an intermittent acute basis. Early emphysema and chronic broncitis were other disorders which joined the list of my health problems. With the MS from 1976 to 1988, I went through multiple programs of physical therapy and rehabilitation and continually acquired new appliances to help me sit, walk and drive as my body deteriorated. My narcolepsy eventually progresed until it was IMPOSSIBLE to stay awake, despite my hardest efforts and the medication. I would fall asleep while walking or while driving, my face would crash into my food, and even when I wasn't in the middle of a an actual sleep attack, I couldn't function. The neurologist had to add an amphetamine used for narcolepsy. My back and spine deteriorated and developed arthritis, which affected the major joints of my body. None of the prescribed drugs cd. be tolerated and again I suffered multiple episodes of hemorrhaging due to chronic erosive gastritis. I was also on chronic pain medication--codeine. The doctors were now prescribing medications reserved for the hopeless to provide minimal comfort and function. An eye condition developed in which I had so little of the normal fluid covering my eye that any air touching the corneas would ulcerate them. Besides being excruciatingly painful, this posed a constant risk of blindness and infection. I had to wear dark goggles with leather shields across the top and sides to keep the air off my eyes. By now, my eyes were too sensitive for even ordinary room light. I was told I wd wear the goggles the rest of my life and offered surgery to try to reduce the pain. The pain was further aggravated by repeated violent inflammatory reactions to all of the doctor's prescribed eye drops. Narcotics had no beneficial effect at all on the pain. It was like having ground glass in my eyes. I willingly submitted to eight operations to try to get even partial relief. The 8th reduced the pain a fraction. Then I was introduced to Sunrider foods. I wore five body braces as well as the goggles. I couldn't sit in a wheelchair long because my body wd try to slide out and go into severe spasms as my muscles wd struggle to hold me upright. If I tried to sit in a regular chair for 30 mintues it felt like being on the deck of a boat in arough sea and I would throw up. With my MS, the pancreatitis and all the medication, it was a life of constant nasea and vomiting, which nearly destroyed the enamel on my teeth. I was on regular injections for the vomiting. I was on zero energy. If I were to visit freinds two nights in a row, even though resting on a couch, it wd tire me out so much that I'd be in bed as long as a week afterwards. Anytime the temperature exceeded 70 degrees I'd be even more flaccid, have more pain and general worsening of all symptoms. My short term memory was so seriousl impaired that I couldn't remember what I told someone the day before. I constantly transposed numbers in my checkbook and when dialing the phone. It was common to not be able to say a word or verbally spell it. Just before I was introduced to Sunrider, I'd had both ovaries removed due to internal hemorrhaging in one of them and rapidly growing tumor in the other. With years of antibiotics, steroids and a poor immune system, another complicating condition was Candida, which I only learned about at the time I began eating Sunrider foods. There were other medical problems, but space does not permit their coverage. Sunriders from Texas, Lynn and Dixie Waldrip, read a news item about me and contacted me. I had nothing to lose. I was racing downhill to destruction with no brakes. The foods required little energy and time to prepare, which was crucial to my success, because I had no caretaker to do it for me. Within the first week of eating large amounts of Sunrider, I had increased energy and alertness. To a sufferer of MS and narcolepsy, this alone would have bn enough to keep me eating Sunrider. But a lot more happened. During the first month, I was able to discontinue all of my medications, including the different types of shots, with the exception of the narcolepsy medication. I shed four of the five body braces, and was starting to sit in regular chairs for several hours at a time by the end of the firs tmonth. I began to take short walks in the woods without appliances. I was jubilant when I tied a 12 year old boy in a short race. By the end of the second moth I was able to sit all day in a regular chair and even in a church pew. I had gotten rid of my last body brace, which was on my right ancle, and was acquiring more energy. My skin color improved. During the third month I no longer had to use the special hand-control equipment in my car. I also took off the goggles that the specialist had prom mised wd be a lifetime fixture. Over the 5th and 6th mos I decreased my narcolepsy medicaiton and finally eliminated them by the 7th month. Between the 5th and 8th mos, I experienced dramatic improvement in my mental functioning. Problems with short term memory, concentration, aphasia and transposing numbers were becoming a thing of the past. At the end of my second year of eating Sunrider foods, my ability to remember appointments without having to write them down, and some aspects of the photographic memory I had prior to medical school are returning. This is extremelyt exciting! During the 8th to 10th mos I began to notice the disappearance of whole sections of ugly red, raised 14-20 year old abdominal scar tissues, remnants of various surgeries. Scar tissue heals from the inside out, so I knew the internal scar tissue and adhesions from my previous medical conditions were also vanishing at the same time. After two years eating Sunrider foods, only a faint white ine remains. My body was firmer and muscles better toned. My energy and stamina were well above average before the first year ended. My unhealthy food cravings gradually lessened over the first year and I qcquired tastes for certain healthy foods I had disliked all my life. After one yr eating Sundrider, I was able to tolerate temperatures to 120 degrees with no adverse affects (sic) whatsoever, even while engagin in strenuous physical activities. By the end of my first year, my gums were no longer sore and bleeding, and my teeth were no longer sensitive. I was able to start to eat raw fruits agian, and my vision had improved. I had grown one inch, and the arthritis in my back had toally disappeared. My skin steadily improved. I continued to look much younger. My facial contours were entirely different by the end of the first year, and even more changed now at the end of the 2nd. My hair grew in thicker and was at first distinctly darker in color as well, then changed to a much lighter color. Even the hairstylists excalimed over its improved condition. It used to take over an hour for a mpermanent to take hold, but now takes less than 3 mins, indicative of the health of the hair. My eyes have changed from rust and green to much bluer. The enamel on my teeth has started to come back and they are losing their yellow cloration. My Candida has been disappearing during the two years, tho it's not yet completely gone. My adrenals and pituitary glands have compesnated for my lack of ovaries, and I have no evidence of estrogen deficiency. Sunrider has changed the quality of my life. I now enjoy nature and outdoor activities denied me for 20 yrs. I engage in strenuous backpacking, camping, fossil hunting, and hiking, including 13 to 18 mile trips in one day. Sunrider is a great blessing from God and I now shre it full time with others. I haven't mentioned the cleanses and retracing my body has gone through, but that would take several more chapters. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Sunrider foods are located in Torrance, California. I think that is a suburb of Los Angeles. --SECregier Your physician shd. be able to contact Dr Compton through Sunrider Foods, a physicians' national directory. --SECregier
