Index Number: 11816 [This is from the Silent Talk Conference] Tzip, Gally is so popular because it has such a long and romantic history. Another reason is that the very name Gallaudet has a special meaning to deaf people all over the world. It is like having the brand name of some product. You know the name even if you have never seen or used the product. More than anything, Gallaudet is in many ways a minaiture DEAFWORLD. Those of us who went there, go back. Either to work or visit at every opportunity. Itis "home." NTID, for all its myriad and well earned virtues can never hope to match thepopulariy of Gallaudet. It simly lacks the charisma among deaf people. It is just a fluke of fate that Gallaudet will always bethe primeire hub around which deaf issues will flow. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!300!14!James.Womack Internet: James.Womack@f14.n300.z1.fidonet.org
