[This is from the Silent Talk Conference]

I recently read in Curriculum Products News, a magazine for
district-level administrators, about a signing bear, that is a
toy bear used somewhat like a puppet that signs. Developed by
Chuck and Jeanne Smallwood from Ventura, CA. it's called Honey.
It has been used with great success with autistic, retarted, and
emotionally disturbed and abused children, but 20% of the bears
are used with the deaf, report the Smallwoods. This might be of
interest to those involved with deaf education of small children
in sign-based situations.
