I've been a Federationist for 16 years and my wife's been in for 4 years. I can tell you that even though there's no such thing as a perfect organization, it has done a lot for both of us personally. In fact, I don't Tina and I would be married today if we hadn't had the strong NFB philosophy underpinning our relationship. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!109!432!Patrick.Gormley Internet: Patrick.Gormley@f432.n109.z1.fidonet.org

Patrick, The only problem with that message is that if I didn't know what organization you meant, I would have suspected you were a Scientologist. The NFB'ers here want to feel rejected and hurt, that's quite clear. The problem is that no one has rejected the philosophy so much as the lock step. We as blind people have enough trouble with a habit of mind that insidiously prompts us to defer to sighted people. This habit limits our feelings of self-worth and our acting as autonomous human beings. We don't need to teach ourselves any more how to group think. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!129!90!Gary.Petraccaro Internet: Gary.Petraccaro@f90.n129.z1.fidonet.org

Index Number: 11866 [This is from the Blink Talk Conference] You have to admit that most of the philosophy of the organized blind movement is only reasonable and common sense. Mutch of it emphasize the fact that the blind should have rights on a par with the sighted person. This doesn't always happen and we need the nfb to help make thinngs happen more in favor of the blind competing on terms of equality with the sighted. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!300!7!Darrell.Shandrow Internet: Darrell.Shandrow@f7.n300.z1.fidonet.org
