The story about Barrier Town continued with intervies from participants.
Most participants did not feel sorry for us. They did come away with a
better understanding of what they could do to make life a little better
for all of us. Personally, I think my goal of bringing about better
understandingand realizing the everyone could play a part in making life
better was accomplished. I could care less about the dogma of NFB or
ACB. We are all individuals, capable of thinking independently. If
you feel there is a need for a particular issue to be addressed, then
address it, don't check to see if you have the acceptance of some
national organization. Sure it is great when you can get support from
these groups, but only you know what is necessary for your community.
So, go for it, do what you think is best, get involved in your
community. Stop waiting for the community to do something, they won't
unless you get in there and tell them something needs to be done. NFB
and ACB can't come to every town and make sure things are the way they
should be only you can doe that. So, do it.

Hi Henry!
I agree that blind folks or anyone for that matter need to get involved
in the community if we want change!! It always helps to have a group
behind you that shares many of your beliefs and philosophies. No, the
NFB isn't in every town and city, but we've re-organized the Fort Worth
chapter, and I'm working with people who definitely want to get
involved in community affairs and in providing education and
information to everyone!
As chapter president, I'm excited about
working to educate folks and I'm looking forward to a fun, challenging
term.
