Index Number: 9504 Thomas, You wanted to talk to other survivors of Polio, well I got it in 1952 also at the age of 5. Mine was not as severe as yours, it only affected my legs and gave me a good case of scoliosis. I am able to function pretty well with leg braces and crutches although in the last couple of years I started using a wheelchair around home. Welcome to the echo, and I hope to hear a lot more from you! Index Number: 9520 I also had polio, 1951. Sometimes I get the impression we are a kind of disability no one else understands. Maybe that is because polio is a thing of the past, (praise God for that). I have been in a wheelchair all of my life, since age 12, but I've seen epeople who are REALLY handicapped in Iron Lungs and other respiratory problems. If we all stick together the ADA will apply to all. Any civil rights legislation should be followed closely by all it targets..... Index Number: 11953 [This is from the Rare Disease Conference] Can anyone tell me if the International Polio Network is still in existance? The last information that I have on them lists an address of: International Polio Network 4502 Maryland Ave. St. Louis, MO 63108 (314)361-0475 My info is dated from 1986. It is my understanding that they were one of the few organizations following up on the Post Polio Syndrome and that a $5 membership would include a subscription to their newsletter. -Warren- -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!275!429.0!Warren.King Internet: Warren.King@p0.f429.n275.z1.fidonet.org
