 this one.]

Hi,

I am currently doing a project on "Graphical hands animation as
in Signed English".

The objective of the project is to interprete an English sentence in Signed
English, which is an Australian sign system, using computer graphics.
It is named as Hand Sign Translator system. When the user types in an English
sentence, the system displays two robot hands(looks like it anyway) and animates
the signs.

I have been looking for people who were doing similar kind of work around
Australia, and have not found any. And there was an information on the robot
which does the sign language(i think it was developed in USA), but could not
get a hold of any information about the system.
So, if you know of any project , or if you have some of the published
papers related to my project, please send me a copy, or mail to me.
It will be greatly appreciated.

There are several programs available. The first is called SIGN FRIENDS
written in BASIC by Fran O'Goram who also reads this conference.
It is set up to view and test individual signs, not sentences.

There are two programs which work with finger spelling rather than
signing words. ASL-TRAN.ZIP translates words into ASL finger
spelling and LSIGN1.ZIP teaches ASL finger spelling.

All three programs are available for downloading or file request
from the Handicap News BBS (1-203-337-1607, 300/1200/2400 baud,
1:141/420 on Fidonet). Sign Friends is available on the SIMTEL20
archives as well as on WUARCHIVE.WUSTL.EDU for anonymous ftp. However,
the archives has version SIGN37, not the latest version SIGN39.
I will be sending SIGN39 to the archives in the next day or so.
I will also send ASL-TRAN and LSIGN1 to the archives at the same time.

[This is from the Silent Talk Conference]

I'm not sure if this will reach you but having just read this msg I feel
compelled to reply. I have been writing a program for the PC that
animates graphically the ASL system of sign that we use here in the US.
It is a program and does not involve robots or anything of that sort.
The name of the program is Sign Friends and I can be reached on this
echo regarding this or you could obtain it by means of the various BBS's
that have it. The Host in Glens Falls and Monroe Electronic in Monroe
NY (the board I'm replying from now) have it. They both belong to
Fidonet. Or you could receive it from me with a SASE and formatted disk
to
              Sign Friends
              79 Glenmere Ave
              Florida, NY 10921 USA
If you would like it in non-compressed format then send 2 disks.
