Does anyone out there own a PERMOBILE wheelchair? Are they good? Do
they break down often? Please tell me all info good and bad since I may
buy one. I don't want to take the salespersons' word for it. I mean
$16,000 is a lot of money if these chairs don't hold up.

                                         Barb Clements

Hi Barb,

Allow me to quote the letter you mailed on 13-Nov-90

Never heard of a PERMOBILE wheelchair, and you are right $16,000 is
a lot of money for a wheelchair. That is, of course, unless you
require many options. Before making this purchase, I would check with
other dealers in your area. I personally own a ROLLS power drive
wheelchair that was manufactured by INVACARE CORPORATION, in LODI,
OHIO, and one could not ask for a better chair. Write these folks
in Ohio, to find out the name of their dealer in your area Incidently
     my chair cost $8,000 !

Let me hear how you make out.

Hi Barb, as of yet I don't own a Permobile but I am getting fitted
and purchasing mine this week. Before I decided on this chair I did a
lot of checking, and got a lot of stats on them. Of the chairs delivered
in 1975 and earlier 87% are still in service. That is a very good record
for a motorized chair to still be worki. Of the chairs that where
delivered in 1982 98% are still in service and anything later it is
100% These figures are a bit low because they did not account for some
of the chairs that were out of service for reasons other than repair.
Such as the user had died. The average life of a power chair is 5 years
the average for Permobile is 10. Most of the repairs also are easily
fixed because of the modular design of the components and they average
and hour repair time. Not bad.
                                 Pandora
