 Season's Greetings fellow Netlanders, from sunny Hobart, Tasmania;
(only 21 shopping days to go!)

My name is Marshall Hughes and I work at the University of
Tasmania. I am also a member of the board of the Beni-Abbes
Community here in Hobart. Beni-Abbes Community Inc. is a member of
L'Arche international and operates two Houses here for Abled and
Intellectually Disabled people to share accommodation. The
Government here regards the Community as providing an Accommodation
Service, but one of the difficulties facing us is that people who
wish to avail themselves of accommodation options with us need to
have daytime occupation. Since many of the people requiring
accommodation do not havework or any sort of day placement, we are
considering initiating a work project.

We may be able to obtain some Government finance to do this, but we
are very much in the research phase at the moment and I would like
to ask if anyone out there has had any experiences in setting up
such a project. We are looking at serving a group of Abled and
moderately Intellectually Disabled People, some of whom will
probably require supported employment for a time with eventual
passage to open employment. If you have any comments I would
appreciate your E-Mailing them to me ( I will summarize back to the
net if that is thought to be appropriate) or post them here if you
think that there is a wider interested audience; I would also like
to hear from any other L'Arche members that read this (past or
present), drop me a note at the address below, our community would
love to hear from you.

				Peace and Joy,
					Marshall Hughes
