[misc.handicap] Dragon Dictate memory requirements

I asked you about this before, but I think it was when your system went down.
What options are there for controlling the amount of main memory taken up by
Dragon Dictate? A friend who uses it finds himself with only 390K free, which
is making it hard for him to run some programs (like the tutorial that comes
with Word Perfect). Is there any way to reduce this usage?

Most definitely yes! Right now I'm running my DragonDictate speech
recognition system along with 30 files, 30 buffers and ansi.sys
loaded. The way that I've configured my system, I have more than 471K
conventional memory currently available. I'm able to run Word Perfect
and another product called Zoomtext with my DragonDictate loaded at
the same time. Have him replace the DT batch file that loads the
DragonDictate drivers with what is in the batch file. That will allow
him to run optimize and it will load the file dragon30.exe into high
memory. The optimize function will automatically load his system
drivers into high memory whenever possible. Make sure that he's using
Quarterdeck's Expanded Memory Manager. It should have come with the
DragonDictate software. Also make sure that he's using at least
version 5.0 Or later. If he doesn't have the latest version he can
still use the version 4.X but he will have to load the drivers
himself. If he's still having difficulties he can call me at (301)-
725-2169 and I'll help him through it. If he's really on a tight
budget have him leave me a message on my answering machine and I'll
call him back. I'm generally at work during the day but after 5
o'clock I'm usually here near the phone.

I'm really sorry that I missed your first message but I hope that
this will have helped him a lot. If he's having any difficulty at all
please have him call me! This is a very powerful system and I know
quite a few other tricks that will enhance the product's output.
Frank.
