>Thanks for your kind encouragement. I was really down in the
>dumps for a while... We were on the verge of an agreement with
>one of the regional centers of the Chicago Department on Aging
>and Disability whereby they would let their clients use a PC at
>their office to access us. I had even offered them communications
>software and any technical assistance that they might need.
>Several of the staff were quite interested and said that they'd be
>operational on their end by mid-September. But now the entire
>concept seems to have vanished in a quagmire of red tape. This
>really hurts, since I work for the City myself, and couldn't get
>anything accomplished. Oh well, municipal elections are coming up
>and now might be the time to try again. This time, I'll try to talk
>my way into the Commissioner's office if I can.
>Wish me luck, this one's gonna be fun!

> Bogie

Hell, why put all your eggs in one basket? Make the same offer to
Easter Seals, Goodwill, UCP and local Rehabs. Only a few of us are
aware of the potential here. I started the Florida Suncoast Chapter,
National Spinal Cord Injury Assn. in 1987 and have tried to get
cooperation going with other disability organizations and it is not
easy. With disabled organizations run by able bodied for disabled
you run into a control mindset and with disabled for disabled you
generally run into one or two people that have to do everything and
don't feel they can take on anymore.
I would like to get a board up and get every disability organiz-
ation in two counties to share information and post a complete
calender of events. With a little support from all of the organiz-
ations legislative alerts could be set up and we could all have
a little more control over our own lives.
It will take a lot of work and a long trip is made up of a lot
of small steps, not all of which are forward. Good luck Bogie.

Workin on it in the South.
                                  Zack
