The same is true with Minnesota State Services for the
Blind and the Minneapolis Society for the Blind, according
to friends there. Doug should hit up that state, too!

I've got a suggestion for you for future releases of Vocal-Eyes. If it
wouldn't be to much trouble, why not try to include the ability for
Vocal-Eyes to read capitalized text with a raise in pitch, the word cap
before said letter, or possible a beep or tone before the letter. I
have been able to get capitalization identification when in review mode
by pitch and can set the keyboard so that I get a caps indication.
For me this had not been a problem but it came up in a demonstration I
was doing the other day where we were using the TYPE command and the
client wanted to know what letters were capitalized. Just a thought.
Keep up the good work. Grant

Grant,
Thanks for the advice. One of the problems we had while developing
Vocal-Eyes was what should be part of Vocal-Eyes and what should be
part of the synthesizer. For example, the Sounding Board has a
capitalization alert built into it. However, if you are using a different
synthesizer you would not have this feature. We decided at the time
not to duplicate the function in Vocal-Eyes since it was already in the
Sounding Board.

I believe at some point I will add this feature to Vocal-Eyes. But tell
me, what would you want spoken on a word such as 'McDonalds', or a
word in total captal letters?

Regards,
  Doug

I have had two students who are medical transcriptionists and
they prefer that the first letter of the capitalized word be
demonstrated by a raise in pitch. Example: Grant The (G) of
Grant would be shown by a higher pitch. Personally I like the
word CAP spoken when capitalization is encountered. We bought
one of the first Soundingboards that Computer aids sold but it
is on my wife's computer. Next time I demonstrate Vocal-Eyes
I'll do it with the Sounding Board. I still think though it
would be a good idea to incorporate a caps identification into
Vocal-Eyes though I can see why youthought it was duplicating
functions. Grant

Doug, I've got a question foryou that I think might be of interest to
all of us non-programers out here. Can you, in a message format, tell
me what goes into building a screen reading program? In other words
did you use Screentalk Pro as the basis for Vocal-Eyes? If you did,
you made some fantastic improvements. How do you go about testing a
program? For coming out withyour first version of a Screenreading
program it really was a treasurehouse and the power and flexibility
are really almost unbelievable. Just curious. Grant
