Daveed,
I have talked with Randy at RC systems. He told me a bit about the
new screen reader you have been talking about. It seems that it will
only support the DoubleTalk. I feel that that is a very large
limitation. Just a thought.

Regards,
  Doug

Doug, I am inclined to agree with you on the face of it, however, supporting
only one synthesizer hasn't seemed to hurt Artic much. However, they came out
with a pretty good synthesizer and a very good screen review program for the
time, when there was little other competition.

DM> Wow! That is a great limitation, but it could be yet
DM> another milestone in this business! I gather your new version
 DM> will be more intelligent?

Daveed,
I am not exactly sure what you mean by more intelligent but you can
be assured it will have some great new features.

DM> I like your flexibility, and fear this new reader may suffer
DM> from not enough power--perhaps tailored for certain programs.

It is very difficult for a brand new screen reader to be up to the
standards of what is already out there. It takes a tremendous amount
of time and energy! When Vocal-Eyes was first released I had about
16 months of my time invested.

DM> Will you be supporting the Doubletalk?

Actually by using the generic driver supplied with Vocal-Eyes you can
already use the Doubletalk. However, I am working with Randy and have
already started creating a driver specifically for it. Randy is making
some last minute changes so once he is done I will be able to finish. It
will be ready when the Doubletalk is placed into production.

Regards,
  Doug

Doug, Hi, there, it has been quite a while since I have written to
you. While I am still not a vocal eyes user at this time, I have
looked over your program, and I think that you have a great program
there, but I just have not brought myself to learn a new program
completely at this time. I guess I haven't had enough insentive.
Now, I said this to say, don't be in any hurry to put your new
vocal eyes on the market. I have found in other cases, which I
will not name, they were too much in a hurry to put there new
program on the market, and there were too many bugs in it. This is
very discouraging to a new user of the program. I would rather see
a new user get the old program which has been made virtually bug
free instead of getting a new one with a lot of bugs in it. So
while it will be nice to see you come out with a new one with great
additions, don't ruin the one you have made great strides with
now. Another words don't ruin your reputation.

Oh, well, I guess I will get down off my soap box for today. Some
day you could win me over, who knows. I will say that from what I
have seen, if you had got me first, I would probably be there.

               Walter

By "intelligent", I mean will the program be more
automatic in various areas? Master Touch, Flipper, and ASAP Reader
claim to be "intelligent"!
Sensory Aids Foundation announced the
availability of DoubleTalk, but, I fear, they
did so too early? When is it to
hit the market-----officially, that is?
